Google Contacts adds support for Android Pie Slices

Android Slices was launched as a key feature of Android 9 Pie. It’s the ability for apps to feature relevant components in natural places like Google Search. However, it has so far been quite unused. But that’s about to change soon as Google has added Slices support to its Contacts app.

Users on Android 9 Pie and Android Q are reportedly seeing the feature after the Google Contacts app update. The Slice is made to make it easier to add a contact without leaving the app they’re currently in.

For instance, if you’re adding a person from WhatsApp, the “add” button triggers a new interface that takes up roughly two-thirds of the screen. It first gives you an option to add the information to an existing contact. If you choose to create a new one, the UI modifies to let you fill in the details to create a new contact. The Slice also supports the dark theme that Android Q is expected to introduce system-wide.

The update is part of Google Contacts v3.57. It’s the same update that offered dark mode support for the app and some other small tweaks. However, not every user who have updated to the latest version are seeing the Slice feature. You might have to wait it out to start using the feature.
